Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in the heavenly realms
with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world
to be holy and blameless in his sight.
In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons
through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will –
to the praise of his glorious grace,
which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
In him we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of sins,
in accordance with the riches of God’s grace
that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Be With Me
~~~~~~~~~
You say to rejoice with those who rejoice
and to mourn with those who mourn
Does this mean You’ve done the same
since the day that I was born?
~
For you see I have some questions
that I’d like to bring to You
It’s about this very subject
I crave to know just what You do
~
If I think that You are with me
and feel all my pain and sorrow
It will help me to endure
no matter what may come tomorrow
~
I can’t bear the thought of walking
through another stormy trial
without Your Presence right beside me
like a father with his child.
I wrote this poem while I was sitting quietly in my studio rocking chair;
it’s an antique chair no one else in the house wanted.
Being a mother, I adopted it, since I had given away my other chair to one of our children.
Sometimes I feel like that old rocker and wonder if I am valuable to God.
Does He see the rejection, the bumps, and the wear and tear?
Does He care?
The best place to find answers is in the Bible.
We are valuable because He loves us.
It is not a love based on performance.
Before I adopted this old rocker, it was just an old rocker;
now it has a place of honor in my favorite creative space.
I read, write, and even say prayers in it.
This chair is a good reminder of our new-found value
when we are adopted, through Jesus, into the Father’s family.
Ironically, it came to be ours, because some friends were downsizing for a move
and quickly needed a home for it.
At one time it had been a cherished chair
that a mother had rocked her babies to sleep in.
Now I use it to pray for my almost fully grown “babies.”
